Now, anyone that knows me at all knows that I hate alpha prim hair.  I hate the way it clips, I hate the way it flies around when you turn, I hate the way you can usually see your scalp through it.  Ask anyone, Scarbie has a hate’n on for the alpha prim hair.

Or did.

As much as I hate it when I get proven wrong, I love it as well.  When something comes along that’s so fabulous I’m swept off my feet and tossed back down somewhere three days later, dazed, confused and pants-less from how thoroughly wrong I was, it’s the best feeling in the world.  I’m happy to admit that I’m wrong, when I’m well and truly, thoroughly proven wrong.

Then, I met cyclone named “Queue Marlowe” (Analog Dog).  My world, it r changeded.  So we’ve chatted on and off in the Fashion Emergency group for a while, but never met in person until we were wandering into Soda to check out the new range of skins (om-nom-nom, by the way.  Very om-nom-nom).  Now, I’ve been hearing a lot about Analog Dog recently, particularly one of their new styles called Milli, but it’s been over a year since I actually went to the store.  I know, I’m bad, but I’ve been trying to *save* money.  But when Queue floated in in the most beautiful hair I’d ever seen, I knew I was in trouble right away.  The soft curls that perfectly stroke the curve of her bosom, the delicately sculpted hat, the perfect touch of flexi so that it looks like her hair’s sliding across her skin when her head moves, it was love at first sight.

The last time I was in Analog Dog, there was only a handful of styles, and she was a relatively new designer.  Hell, I was new too, and I was more than happy with the lusciously bright colours of my first set of hair from her, a rather ancient set (that Queue’d forgotten about, apparently!) called Kim.  But now, Queue has revolutionized the way I look at alpha hair, and even prim hair in general.  The pictures don’t do it justice, you have to try the demos and watch the hair move as you do.  The Angel ponytail doesn’t even look like prims, particularly when you’re wearing the black or dark sets.  Camming up close and watching as my avatar twists and turns through her AO cycle, all I can see is delicate strands of hair moving softly as gravity’s dictates.

On top of all that, Analog Dog even encourages individuality with a technique I’ve only really seen in a handful of places right now – For just $10L per pack (4-10 colours per pack), you can pick your own bangs that frame your face just how you like, and there’s a choice of eight different cuts.  Fantastic for someone like me that hates having her forehead showing.  Don’t ask me why, I’ll walk around butt naked and bald happily, but as soon as I’ve got hair on it BETTER be covering my forehead!  Plus, most of the sets of hair I picked up come with some bangs as well, but if you don’t like the way those look on your face, you can mix and match to suit yourself.  It’s a fantastic, I am in love.

Anyway, a few other credits before I show pictures.  Thanks to Siddean Munro of SLink for the gorgeous coat paired with the Para style, Sachi & Damen from Adam n Eve for too many things to name, Karr Fall for saving me from having to struggle with pretty pictures while Alia’s not feeling her usual fabulous self and all the girls on Fashion Emergency for putting up with my while I yarded and ranted and raved through three days of prep on this post.  <3 you guys.  And <3 the readers!

Okay, this is just a quickie post, because I’ve got a much bigger post planned for later tonight (or whenever I get it done. x_x), but this is too awesome not to blog RIGHT FREAKING NOW OKAY?  Incase you couldn’t tell from my Random Japan post a few weeks ago, I have a major fashion crush on this gorgeous little Japanese jewellery store, Silver Dragon.  Boy golly, is the store getting bigger!  Every time I go in there I keep buying more and more.  Her texturing is exquisite, her sculpties are smooth and perfect, and there’s that little touch of extra love in the mix that you just don’t see often enough.  Rather than overcomplicated designs heavy on the bling, June Bamaisin goes for silky smooth curves and gems accented with just the slightest touch of glow to make the crystals seem really alive.  Believe me, it works!

Random Japan Chapter 1

The Story

Call me weird, but there’s nothing I love more than a mall full of adorable, cheap things and gyrating horse-girls.  Thanks to another blog post about a cute pair of free moccasins, I found myself wandering around yet another Japanese mall.  There’s nothing more fun and satisfying than a fashion pilgrimage into a foriegn sim, even if you sometimes have no idea what’s going on.  It’s not hard to figure out “adorable” and “cheap or free”, no matter which language you speak.  Now, I’ll be the first to admit that I’m no Japanophile.  I dislike anime and manga (and no, you will not change my mind, I’ve watched and read enough to be able to make an educated decision that I don’t like the genres), but what I find while exploring these Japanese sims is too adorable NOT to blog.

It’s been a while since I went on my first exploratory pilgrimage in search of some unknown fashion trend just waiting to be discovered, so long I only remember a couple of the adorable things I picked up then.  You see, while Euro-merican malls are often full of reseller crap with a few good bits tossed into the mix, Japanese malls seem to be full of the quirky and adorable.  Of course, while I’m shopping a couple of even MORE adorable Japanese girls show up and I just *have* to inspect them and go loot the stores they got their stuff from.  I ended up accidentally topless in a store called Skywalker’s Wonderland while tracking down an schoolgirl uniform, and literally bumped into the owner.  Sweet thing she was, she gave me a free neck ribbon as thanks for purchasing her clothing.  So cute!

Then I’m off again, tracking down something I saw on a girl there, and I end up in the Creator’s Pavilion sim.  So much cute in such a small space, and there’s no one here!  What’s wrong with the world?!  Well, I’m all about righting wrongs, so I hitch up my stockings, check my L’s, and go a wandering.  What did I find?  A world of marvels and beauty untouched by the west, that’s what.

If you haven’t picked it up by now, my advice after this post is simple – whether it’s the punk-rock skirts from +*susie*+ or the cute chunky jewellery of +Spica+, don’t be afraid to explore a sim just because it’s in another language.  Beauty is the universal language.

Update: It’s come to my attention that the free hair from =TEKUTEKU= pictured with Outfit 3 does not seem to be available in the owner’s shop right now.  I’m trying to track it down, and will update if I manage to find it or if she releases it to her store.  Also, for the record, I retextured the style using ETD’s Series 2 hair textures to match the outfit; the original is an adorable brown with cream ribbons.

Super Duper Crazy Frangipani Moving Sale

God, I’m a sucker for a sale.  But then, who isn’t?  And who could possibly say no to cute hair for $20L per colour pack (of 2 colours) and fatpacks for $200L?  Or clothing from $5L up?!  Not me, that’s for sure!  And that’s what Frangipani Designs doing right now – It’s super-duper-crazy!  The sale runs from… well, a few days ago until some time towards the end of September, apparently!  Oh, and there IS stuff for the boys, too!

I gotta tell you, every time I hear about a sale at one of my favourite stores, I die a little inside.  Because I just know I’m gonna go, I’ll spend far too much money, and… well, Scarbie’s on a very limited budget.  But when I heard about a sale at D-Skin, I almost burst into tears right then and there, because this little store sells some of my favourite skins on SL, both for male and female avatars.   And they were a steal at their NORMAL price of $1500L, so at $750L per pack they’re so good they’re almost criminal.  But hell, arrest me now and throw away the key, because I’m in love, love, *love*.  And here’s why.

We, the SL consumer, are used to forking out between $500L and $2000L per makeup for skins.  With D-Skins, you’re not paying for a single makeup, you’re paying for up to sixteen options.  I kid you not.  My favourite one, #37, comes with four different lipglosses, two freckle options, and two eyeliner options, all for $750L this week only.  Many of the other female skins are the same.  Even the male skins come with four different beard options.  These skins are gorgeous – everything, from the faces to the chests to the backs of the knees are absolutely perfect.  And… well, to be perfectly blunt, the female skins have the cutest little snatches I’ve ever *seen*.  Not only that, but each skin package comes with a scripted updater.  If the designer, DynamiteTanaka Payne, releases an update to a particular skin in the future, it’ll automatically deliver the new version to you at no extra charge.  It’s a godsend.

Anyway, enough with the gushing, onto the pictures.  And remember, these are just TWO of the skins.  I own one of each gender at the moment, #32 of the guys and #37 of the girls.  There’s more.  There’s lots more.  Be prepared to to spend hours trying on demos.  Bring L, come now.  The sale’s on until Tuesday the 16th, so you have some time.  But don’t forget!

Monday Afternoon Mystery Adventure: Reaction!

The Project

What can I say, I like a challenge? So I decided to start a new feature (aka, yet another thing to do for fun when I should really be working). If I like it, I might just do it again. The game is to pick a couple of words at random, plug them into my inventory search engine, and assemble an outfit around whatever I find. Hey, it’s a good way to wear something I’d probably forget I had otherwise!

This week’s word is REACT. Well! That was an easy start, because it just so happens that one of my favourite stores on the grid is Reaction Girl. While it’s heading towards autumn in the northern hemisphere, it’s finally heading towards spring down here in New Zealand. It’s still just cold enough to dream of warmer days, of days on the beach, playing in the sand and basking in the glorious warmth until you turn red as a lobster! Reaction Girl (and their male counterpart, Reaction) provide the perfect wear for capturing those long summer days, everything from gorgeous bikinis to adorable cutoffs to the most perfect rashies I’ve ever seen, plus they also do surfboards, beachtowels and the cutest little boogie boards you’ve ever seen. They’ve also started moving into more general casualwear, including cute little sundresses, jeans, and shoes.

Also, as an added bonus, Reaction and Reaction Girl are on the sim right next to WRONG, my favourite source of all things punky and plaid. If you haven’t been to either, well… what’re you waiting for?! Go forth and shop, my darlings!

The Plot

It’s a well-known fact that you should never go anywhere without your wonderful towel (^5 for random pop-culture references!). My towel’s name is Alia. We decided to make an adventure of it, and spent an afternoon exploring the Boneyard sim surrounding Reaction, poking in the crannies, basking in the sun, and… picking up boys a little, maybe.

New Male Shapes – Some Super-Sexy Variety!

…Because variety is the spice of life, right?  Right!  Well, I’ve had these boys sitting around in my inventory for quite a while now, gathering dust, because I couldn’t find a dark skin that I liked.  But this weekend, I finally got around to checking out Dernier Cri, and… Wow!  Not only are they gorgeous, not only do they fit the shape perfectly, not only do they not suffer from that weird lip thing that a lot of male skins suffer from, but they’re a steal at only $900L a pop!  That’s HALF the price of most of the stores I’ve been looking in.  Now, I know Abyss just released a dark skin, and I know they’re more popular, but everyone and their mother has Abyss these days and… well, the Dernier Cri is just as sexy, without being quite so commonplace!

Anyway, I’m not gonna get into too much of a gushy review of Dernier Cri yet, that’s for next week.  For now, the shapes!
